How It Works

Learn how Guess the Note helps you train your ear, recognise piano pitches, and build music theory skills through interactive practice.

What is ear training?

Ear training is the practice of identifying musical elements — like pitch, intervals, and chords — by listening alone. For piano players, recognising individual notes is a foundational skill that supports sight-reading, improvisation, and playing by ear.

How Guess the Note works

Each round plays one or more piano notes using high-quality sampled audio. You listen, then select the matching keys on an interactive piano keyboard. The app gives immediate feedback so you can learn from mistakes and track progress over time.

Difficulty levels

Beginner mode uses natural notes (C through B) in a single octave. Intermediate adds sharps and flats within one octave. Advanced spans multiple octaves with full chromatic notes — ideal for students preparing for exams or serious practice.

Tips for better results

Start with beginner mode and short rounds. Replay notes as often as needed before guessing. Focus on the relationship between notes rather than memorising absolute pitch. Practise daily — even five minutes builds lasting improvement.
